After Allure photo shoot, Britney Spears ducks interview

The cover of September's Allure magazine features Britney Spears posed provocatively in jeans and a dark brown wig, her bare breasts covered by her arms. There are similar shots inside. She very cooperatively posed in April in New York. But when it came to sitting for the interview that she also agreed to, that became a different matter. "Britney showed up for Allure's cover shoot on time and ready to work," editor-in-chief Linda Wells wrote in a letter for the issue, on newsstands Tuesday. "She was entirely unself-conscious: She took off her wig and then stripped down to the waist, for no apparent reason, before sitting for hair and makeup," Wells said. "She was agreeable and cooperative on the shoot and left at the end of the day, followed by a trail of paparazzi." As for the interview, the 25-year-old Spears missed four appointments with Allure interviewer Judith Newman, Wells said. At one point, Spears put off the chat because she was "delayed by important work in the recording studio," Newman wrote. But, she added, "The paparazzi found her a few hours later at a salon, getting her nails done."

Busted:

Musician Matthew Shafer -- who performs under the name Uncle Kracker -- was in Wake County (N.C.) Jail Friday morning on a charge of sec ond-degree forcible sex offense. Shafer was in Raleigh, N.C., for an outdoor concert Thursday. The charge stems from an incident at a bar, police spokesman Jim Sughrue said. A 26-year-old woman approached an off-duty officer and told him Shafer had committed a sexual act against her, Sughrue said. The woman and Shafer were not acquaintances. Shafer was being held in lieu of $5 million secured bond.

Amy Winehouse has pulled the plug on her concerts after being hospitalized last week for "severe exhaustion." Spokeswoman Tra cey Miller said the 23-year-old British soul singer was putting touring commitments on hold "in order to address her health issues." Miller did not elaborate. But British papers reported this week that Winehouse had checked into -- then out of -- a rehab clinic near London. Her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, said the couple had just gone home to pick up a guitar.

They said it:

"We rubbed our hands on the stage, and I didn't wash my hands for a week. I had gum that I chewed in the air where he breathed and I kept it for, like, 15 years." -- Pat Hillebrand of DuBois, Pa., who along with friend Sandy Bartoletti visited Elvis Presley's gravesite Thursday, the 30th anniversary of his death. It brought back memories of the concert they attended in 1957 as 15-year-old schoolmates.
